meet the Simityè

A large and imposing beast roughly the size of a moose, a Simityè is a sight to behold if you manage to catch a glimpse of one!
With large and powerful forearms used for digging, they usually live in underground burrows. Due to their photosensitivity you will never see one during the day, though their night vision is excellent and their sense of smell is more than enough to traverse even the darkest areas.
Typically solitary creatures, they make their home in across cemeteries and churchyards and take it upon themselves to be dutiful keepers of their chosen territory. Spiritual in nature, they will not tolerate any disrespect of the dead. As long as you are mindful of both them and the deceased, these giants are very gentle and may even reward those who are kind to their graves.
TRIVIA:
  • While Simitye CAN communicate, true spoken words are incredibly rare
  • Some can only mimic, some never speak at all. The Simityè usually communicate via a series of grunts, growls, other such animalistic noises and paw gestures.
  • A group of Simitye are called a "marrow"
  • They mate for life with their chosen partner and have been known to cohabitate with Carriopod companions

Anatomy

Omnivorous in nature and opportunistic eaters, Simityè have odd human-like teeth with a mixture of multiple sharp canines and flat teeth used for grinding plant matter due to their rather varied diet. Their mouths are quite large in size spanning most of their head reaching under the eye, with large flat rounded tongues.
Rumors of Simitye devouring those who mistreat or vandalize their graves, and adding what little remains to a secret stash of bones acts as a good deterrent for those who would wish to cause trouble, though it's wondered if these rumors may have more credence than thought due to graverobbing individuals mysteriously being "taken care of"
Simitye can also walk quite well on their hindlegs, some even prefer this method of transportation!
This "anthro" style of gait seems to have been developed to help them reach higher areas without causing any hip displacement or discomfort.
